Impossible Objects is a series of paintings that resists easy classification. Solid forms depicted seem to exist in real space and light while at the same time appear other-worldly and surreal. Their precision and exactness are balanced with a sense of constructed bricolage. They hint at things we may recognize but never quite settle into accepting. Black and white backdrops heighten a sense of mystery and at times seem to even seep through to the surface of foreground objects.

These results are arrived at through the process of making paintings based on studio installations. These installations include simple wooden forms, lenses and mirrors, as well as projected imagery. Utilizing the techniques and tricks of visual effects cinematography, our sense of reality is put to the test.
